The dataset includes raw biometric data, lighting treatment spectrum data, and three-state PHYB model prediction data for kale 'Red Russian' and lettuce 'Rex' and 'Rouxai' grown under various combinations of far-red fractions (the fraction of far-red light to the sum of red and far-red light) and light intensities. The data were generated by Jiyong Shin and Dr. Erik S. Runkle during a study conducted in the Controlled-Environment Lighting Laboratory (CELL) at Michigan State University from 2023 to 2025. This study aimed to investigate whether the effects of the far-red fraction on shade-avoidance-like responses (e.g., leaf-shape index and specific leaf area increase) of hydroponically-grown kale and lettuce act independent of light intensities if the light intensity changes are only of red and far-red light intensity.
