<p>Dataset corresponds to paper entitled "One-dimensional photonic crystals for label-free sensing applications: Impact of nanopattern shape on the device performance" (https://doi.org/10.1016/j.optlastec.2025.114042). In the study, we focused on evaluating the label-free sensing performance of one-dimensional photonic crystal (1D PhC) fabricated by nanopatterning of silica glass and coating with a high refractive index (RI) thin film, such as titanium dioxide (TiO2). The objective was to maximize shifts in wavelength within the spectral features of the PhC’s transmission spectrum in response to changes in the surrounding RI or formation of a film on the sensor surface, as required for label-free sensing applications. The shift is a key indicator of the sensor’s capability for identifying, e.g., biological targets binding by receptors immobilized on the PhC’s surface. First, we have numerically identified the impact of PhC dimensions, shape, and coating distribution on the sensitivity. Finally, a selected scenario has been fabricated to validate the numerical analysis.</p>
