Centromeres are essential cis elements that mediate accurate chromosome segregation during mitosis and meiosis. Metazoan centromeres have been refractory to DNA sequencing and assembly due to their highly repetitive nature. We used ChIP-Seq with the centromeric histone variant, CENP-A to identify candidate centromeric sequences in Drosophila melanogaster.
