Transcription des ordres donnés par le Lieutenant général de police de Paris Antoine de Sartine à l'inspecteur de la librairie Joseph d'Hémery (1765-1774)

This dataset contains a diplomatic transcription of administrative correspondence sent by Antoine de Sartine, Lieutenant General of Police of Paris, to Joseph d’Hémery, Inspector of the Book Trade, between 1765 and 1774. The documents concern the regulation and policing of the Parisian book trade, including references to authors, printers, booksellers, peddlers, and prohibited printed materials such as books, pamphlets, periodicals, newspapers, and almanacs. The dataset provides a readable transcription of the manuscripts and aims to facilitate research on the history of censorship, print culture, and the public sphere in late Ancien Régime France. This transcription was created in the realm of the ERC project (2021-2026) Pamphlets and Patrons: How Courtiers shaped the Public Sphere in Ancien Régime France. This project has received funding from the European Research Council (ERC) under the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme (Grant agreement No 101001197).
