Antibacterial compounds from actinomycetes collected in Switzerland

Actinomycetes were isolated from soil, compost, moor and pond samples collected at different sites in Switzerland. Based on partial 16S rDNA sequences, the isolated strains belong to the genera Streptomyces, Actinokineospora, Amycolatopsis, Couchioplanes, Actinophytocola, Actinoplanes, Nocardia, Kribella, Asanoa, Micromonospora, Saccharothrix, Microbacterium and Nonomuraea. Ethyl acetate extracts prepared of the cell free culture broth of the isolated strains were further analysed by HPLC and MALDI-TOF-MS to identify the produced antibiotics.
