The ruminant carbon emission dataset is developed using the internationally advanced GreenFeed greenhouse gas detection system. It collects real-world greenhouse gas emission data including methane, carbon dioxide and other relevant gases from lactating dairy cows at typical pastures in Beijing. After undergoing systematic quality control and standardized processing, the dataset boasts high traceability and scientific rigor. This dataset primarily addresses the common industry challenges currently faced, such as the shortage of greenhouse gas emission factors for dairy cows, inaccurate carbon emission accounting, and difficulties in evaluating carbon emission reduction pathways. By providing high-resolution, field-measured emission data, it supports the following key application scenarios: (1) Providing key emission factors for carbon footprint accounting and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), thereby improving the carbon emission quantification capacity of China's dairy industry; (2) Supporting the compilation of national and local greenhouse gas inventories and carbon verification mechanisms, and filling the gaps in basic data; (3) Providing decision-making support for emission reduction technology evaluation, breeding mode optimization and refined management; (4) Enabling researchers to construct and validate animal carbon emission prediction models and emission pattern recognition models; (5) Providing a reliable basis for enterprises to carry out green and low-carbon product certification and carbon label identification; (6) Demonstrating the progress of low-carbon transformation in the dairy industry to the public and media, and enhancing public awareness and confidence in the "dual carbon" work of the animal husbandry sector. This dataset has been widely applied in practical research and policy-making, possesses high promotion value and continuous update potential, and serves as an important foundational resource for promoting the standardization and digitalization of carbon emission data from dairy farming in China.
