A hierarchy of signals regulates entry of membrane proteins into the ciliary membrane domain in epithelial cells

Live cells expressing GFP-PODXL and an empty shRNA plasmid were imaged by confocal microscopy 12 days after seeding on filters. GFP-PODXL is mostly excluded from the CMD and primary cilia. A single primary cilium can be seen extending from a cell without an apparent CMD (bottom center). Image field is 51.67 microns on the X and Y axes with 0.5 microns between Z slices.
