This folder contains the data used for analysis and figures of the manuscript "Worldwide evidence that wild megafauna shape ecosystem properties and promote spatial heterogeneity" and some additional supplementary files. Data<b>Megafauna_Meta_Analysis_Data.Rds</b>: the main data set used to run the analysis. Columns:data_point_ID: Unique ID for each data point (=pairwise comparison)Citation: Unique ID for each included studyTitle: The title of the studydata_year: Year of data collection if reported, otherwise year of publication.Latitude: Latitude of studyLongitude: Longitude of studyStudy_Notes: Notes on studyData_Notes: Notes on dataDesign_Notes: Notes on study designbroad_experimental_mechanism: The mechanism used to study megafaunaimpacts (exclosure, enclosure, management differences etc)eco_response: Ecosystem response category used in the analysisResponse_Cat: Semi-specific response categoryResponse: Specific response measured and reported in study (e.g., cover, density,diversity, concentration, and so on)Units: Units of reported responsetreatment_duration_days: The number of days since experimental treatment asa numeric variablemeasure_area_m2: Area of measurement (i.e., plot size)time_series_clean: Some studies reported repeated measurements of the sameplot. This column gives a numeric sequence for time series data (e.g., same site, plot,species, and response, but measured on different dates)experiment_id: ID of a specific experiment for random effects (e.g., one nutrientresponse per study).Nutrient_Cleaned: Which nutrient response was measured (if any)Herbivore_nativeness: Whether the experimental treatment contains introducedspecies (“Introduced”) or native only (“Native”).Species_Class: The type of species affected by the megafaunaSpecies_Level: Whether the response is a species, a genus, a family, or a higherlevel (e.g. all plants)Species: The species responding to the megafaunayi_smd: Hedges‘ g (standardized mean difference)vi_smd: Variance in yi_smdabs_yi_smd: Absolute value of yi_smdyi_cvr: LnCVR (effect size measuring heterogeneity in response)vi_cvr: Variance in yi_cvrNPP: Net primary productivityBIOME: Biome of the study-locationREALM: Biogeographic realm of the study-locationMAT: Maximum annual temperatureMAP: Maximum monthly precipitationai: Aridity index (lower values = higher aridity)site_id: Similar between studies in close spatial proximity, used for random effects.mean_species_body_mass: Mean species body mass of the herbivore community(kg)max_species_body_mass: Body mass of the largest species in the herbivorecommunity (kg)mean_species_body_mass_CWM: Community weighted mean species body massof the herbivore community (kg)max_species_body_mass_CWM: Community weighted max species body mass ofthe herbivore community (kg)total_loss_kg_ha: Herbivore biomass per ha excluded due to treatment (kg/ha)soil_cec: Soil cation exchange capacity (mmol(c)/kg)clay: Soil clay content (g/kg)soil_nitrogen: Soil nitrogen content (cg/kg)pH: Soil pH water (pH*10)..._log: The columns ending with “_log” contain the respective log-transformedcovariates.<b>basic_information_studies_R1.csv</b>: Contains basic information of the included studies such as Citation, Title, Latitude, Longitude, plot size (“measure_area_m2”) and treatment duration (“treatment_duration_days”).<b>measured_responses_R1.csv</b>: Contains all specific measured responses “Measured” per analyzed ecosystem response category (“Ecosystem_Response”).<b>responses_experimental_mechanism_R1.csv</b>: Experimental mechanisms (“Experimental_Mechanism”) within each response category (“Ecosystem_Response”) and respective number of studies (“n_studies”).<b>model_results_R1.csv</b>: Results of all models. Relevant columns are:response: Response which was tested.var: explanatory variableuniq_model_id: Unique model id, necessary to load model from directory.effect: i.e., yi_smd (hedges’ g) or yi_cvr (lnCVR)LRT: Statistical value from likelihood ratio testpval: p-value of likelihood ratio testestimate: Intercept for intercept only models, otherwise variable estimateestimate_pval: estimate p-value. Intercept for intercept only models, otherwisevariable p valueci.lb & ci.ub:: lower 95% CI and upper 95% CIoutlier_...: values from the models without disproportional influential studies(cooks distance > 1). If NA, no study had to be excluded.<b>R1_model_guide.Rds: </b>master model guide, containing the specifications for each model.
