Recordings and transcriptions of Swadesh and Leipzig-Jakarta lists for 20 Sinitic varieties from Southern Zhejiang and Northern Fujian

This dataset contains recordings and transcriptions of Swadesh & Leipzig-Jakarta lists for 20 Sinitic varieties from Southern Zhejiang and Northern Fujian. Data were collected between March and June 2025. Each of the 20 speakers (average age 49) pronounced a 138-item concept list in their native variety. The list is the union of the 100-word Swadesh list and the 100-word Leipzig-Jakarta list: items 1-100 correspond to the Leipzig-Jakarta list, items 101-138 are the additional Swadesh items. The transcriptions are also available as separate Swadesh-only and Leipzig-Jakarta-only .xlsx files. Tones were not annotated; f0 values were extracted separately and normalized per speaker, and are available for items 1-100 only. Oral consent for publication was obtained from all speakers; they were informed that pseudonymized audio and annotations would be published online. Speakers may request removal at any time.
