ICESat-2 Bathymetric Photon Fusion with Sentinel-2 and Allen Coral Atlas Dataset

ICESat-2 data fusion is an important topic in the field of Satellite Derived Bathymetry. However, this process can be difficult due to the differences in data formats between ICESat-2 and other remotely sensed datasets. Many workflows exist to perform this data fusion in the literature, but none of them are designed to work at scale. We developed a scalable, cloud-based workflow for processing ICESat-2 data in order to extract bathymetry and combine bathymetric measurements with other geospatial datasets. Our workflow facilitates "big data" research, such as deep learning. To demonstrate this, we have produced a dataset containing a large number of globally distributed ICESat-2 tracks. These tracks have been processed to extract bathymetry and those bathymetric photons have been fused with Sentinel-2 spectral imagery and Allen Coral Atlas benthic habitat classifications. The resulting dataset is ideally suited for training and testing ICESat-2 benthic habitat classification models.
