资源简介:
We have been timing the very young pulsar PSR J1833-1034, recently\ndiscovered near the center of the supernova remnant (SNR) G21.5-0.9\n(Camilo et al. 2006). With 16 months of timing data in hand we have\nconfirmed that the pulsar is coincident, to sub-arcsec precision, with the\ncentrally-peaked X-ray source visible in Chandra data near the center of\nG21.5-0.9 and have therefore confirmed this pulsar-SNR association beyond\nany doubt. More unexpectedly, we have been able to measure this pulsar's\nbraking index, n = 2.18, only the 6th such phase-coherent measurement\ndone in over 1700 pulsars known. We now have a chance to measure the\n"second braking index" and place further constraints on the spin-down law\nobeyed by this pulsar. This has been done to date for only 2 pulsars.\nFinally, we wish to continue timing this pulsar because it will be one of\nthe prime candidates for gamma-ray detection with the GLAST satellite to\nbe launched in 2007, and in order to do so we must maintain its timing\nsolution. For these reasons we request 24 hr for timing PSR J1833-1034\nduring the present semester.
