Sequence information is not yet available for the flowering plant Mirabilis jalapa, also known as morning glory. M. jalapa is the host of the oomycete plant pathogen Phytophthora mirabilis. In order to colonize the plant, during infection P. mirabilis produces diseases related proteins that can target host plants proteases. In order to identify proteases of M. jalapa that are highly expressed during infection, we performed a de novo assembly using illumina sequence reads of infected leaf samples with P. mirabilis. We were able to predict novel cysteine proteases that are target of P. mirabilis cysteine-like protease inhibitor effectors.
