This dataset contains necrophagous beetle species sampled with pitfall traps baited with rat carcasses on all BETA-FOR patches in spring and late summer 2023. Pitfall traps were placed in the center of the patch for 48 hours and dung beetles of the families Silphidae, Leiodidae, Dermestidae, Scarabaeidae and Geotrupidae were identified to species level. Pitfall traps were installed directly after a carcass decomposition experiment (https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.15125944).
