This series acts as a reference book for the current policies and procedures of the New South Wales Fire Brigades relating to permanent and retained firefighters.Standing Orders are compiled from the New South Wales Fire Brigades In Orders. Each piece of information in these volumes has a reference to the original In Order.Amendments to the text are noted in the reference to In Orders. Amendments have generally been made to update titles, names, addresses and telephone numbers; to delete obsolete information; and to improve the readability of the text without changing the intent of the subject matter. If the subject matter needs to be changed, a new In Order must be issued.Standing Orders are divided into three volumes:Volume One contains information on operational matters: response procedures, driving, operations, training, occupational health and safety and fire prevention.Volume Two contains information on administrative matters such as protocol, personnel, finance, and station management.Volume Three contains information on the supply, operation, inspection and maintenance of clothing, appliances and equipment.Each volume begins with a table of contents and an index that covers all three volumes. The table of contents lists section headings and subheadings in the order in which they appear in the book. The index lists subjects in alphabetical order, with references to the appropriate page.The first edition of Standing Orders was published in 1986, replacing Consolidated In Orders.
