Emerging compound air-soil heatwaves amplify global vegetation losses This repository contains the Python code and processed data used to reproduce the main figures and analyses of independent air heatwaves, independent soil heatwaves, and compound air-soil heatwaves. The original ERA5, MERRA-2, CMIP6, and GPP datasets are not included because of their large file sizes. Instead, we provide the processed metrics used to reproduce the analyses and figures in the main text. Codes information: [3-1] Spatial characteristicsPlots the spatial distributions and regional statistics of heatwave frequency, duration, maximum intensity, and cumulative intensity using the processed reanalysis metrics. [3-2] Historical temporal changesCalculates and plots the long-term changes in heatwave metrics. [3-3] Spatial trendsCalculates grid-cell trends using the Theil-Sen estimator and modified Mann-Kendall test and plots their spatial distributions and regional trends. [4] GPP responsesAnalyzes GPP anomalies associated with the three heatwave types, including event-period responses and GPP changes before and after heatwave events. [5] Future projectionsAnalyzes historical and future heatwave metrics from CMIP6 simulations and compares projected changes under SSP2-4.5 and SSP5-8.5.
