R/V Falkor Moving Vessel Profiler Deployed 2013-08-21

The Moving Vessel Profiler DS (S/N 11069) was deployed on 2013-08-21 on R/V Falkor. The Research Vessel Falkor is the flagship vessel of the Schmidt Ocean Institute. This device is a Moving Vessel Profiler. Moving Vessel Profilers (MVP) are instruments that collect data sets from deep and shallow water. The MVP system includes a winch, deployment system and a device called a free fall fish. The winch and deployment system allows the free fall fish to be released from a vessel while it is moving. Once deployed, the free fall fish is an autonomous device that carries a variety of sensors and collects data as it swims around the water column. It was deployed on a mobile platform. Data from this deployment were archived and made available through Ocean Networks Canada's Oceans 3.0 digital infrastructure, with quality assurance and derived data products following established practices.
