In general, E. coli does not produce H2S, which distinguishes it from other members of the Enterobacteriaceae family. However, a few studies have shown the occurrence of atypical H2S-producing E. coli in both humans and animals across the globe. The H2S-producing E. coli strain with AR genes identified in this investigation highlights the need for moderate antibiotic usage in future clinical practices.
