Many species of Penicillium have demonstrated great potentials in lignocellulose hydrolysis. The filamentous fungi Penicillium piceum 9-3, isolated from compost wastes in China, showed high capacities of cellulase especially ß-glucodisase production. In this study, the draft genome sequence has been established and the publication of the genome sequence will contribute a lot to large scale application of P. piceum in the production of efficient cellulosic biomass degradation systems.
