The Leaf Area Index (LAI), defined as half the total surface area of green leaves per unit ground area, serves as a critical biophysical parameter for characterizing vegetation canopy structure and its ecological functions. This dataset presents a globally consistent, spatiotemporally continuous LAI product at a 500-meter spatial resolution and 4-day temporal resolution, spanning the period from 2000 to 2020. Derived from MODIS reflectance data and land cover classification datasets, the product incorporates specialized inversion algorithms for water-vegetation mixed regions and ecotones, effectively mitigating the influence of surface heterogeneity on LAI estimation. Additionally, by integrating vegetation phenological characteristics and utilizing meteorological data to optimize the time series, the dataset achieves enhanced spatiotemporal continuity. The dataset is readily accessible for direct use, providing robust and reliable data support for global vegetation studies, ecological monitoring, and decision-making processes.
