Gut microbiota in adult mice after continuous streptomycin treatment and after removal of streptomycin

Streptomycin treatment of adult mice is a common animal model for Vibrio cholerae infection. Streptomycin removes commensal microbes from the intestine of mice to reduce colonization resistance. Withdrawal of streptomycin after a period of streptomycin treatment resulted in partial recovery of commensal bacteria in the intestine, conferring colonization resistance to Vibrio cholerae from the gut microbiota. The 16S amplicon sequencing dicover the differential intestinal bacteria and further exploration of their interactions with Vibrio cholerae.
