Level Of Traffic Stress (2023)

Level of Traffic Stress (LTS) rating for every roadway segment in the Chicago, IL metropolitan area for the year 2023. LTS ratings for roadway segments were calculated based on a methodology from the University of Minnesota’s Accessibility Observatory. The methodology incorporates roadway values from OpenStreetMap (OSM) for the year 2023: roadway tag, roadway restrictions, shared-street status, shared-busway status, lane configuration, posted roadway speed, and existing bicycle facilities. Roadways values are generated from 1 to 4, with 1 as least stressful for bicycle travel, and 4 as most stress for bicycle travel. The data is for planning-level purposes only, and it is updated annually.
