16S rRNA amplicon study of the microbial communities in Glacier Lake

Samples from 6 depths in a meromictic were analyzed for community composition. These samples, originating from Glacier Lake in Onondaga County, NY, varied in community composition with depth. The surface samples reflected normal lake communities, comprised of aerobic photosynthesizers, actinobacteria, and alphaproteobacteria. Deeper samples reflected transitions in lake chemistry, being comprised of more anaerobes and sulfur cyclers.
