VPRS 3218 Index to Inward Correspondence, Numerical System, Secretary

This series consists of index cards relating to the Inward Correspondence, Numerical System, Secretary (VPRS 865). Each card has the name of the subject or index term and the registration numbers of pieces of correspondence. Many cards also have a brief notation of the specific matter to which each piece of correspondence referred or the name of a specific individual.These cards became a cumulative record of all correspondence to the Secretary of the Department of Crown Lands and Survey (VA 538) on a specific subject area and became a file classification system for that correspondence.Index terms are based upon the names of specific officials or agencies with which there was repetitive correspondence such as the Public Service Board or on subjects determined by that in a piece of correspondence.
