Pseudomonas aeruginosa Biofilm Developed in Chronic Wounds

As the population ages, chronic wounds have become a major worldwide healthcare burden. Bacterial biofilms formation is one of the major reasons for treatment failure in chronic wound infections. Therefore, the diagnostics remains the best option for prevention and treatment of chronic wound infections by biofilms. This work was to search for potential markers which could monitor biofilms developed in chronic wounds. Herein, Pseudomonas aeruginosa PAO1 was used to mimic biofilm development in chronic wound with porcine skin explants as ex vivo model. Microscropic imaging and RNA-seq technique were applied for monitoring biofilm development and profile of whole genomic expression, respectively.
