Sulfitobacter sp. EE-36. This strain was collected in the surface waters of coastal Georgia, and was isolated from an enrichment culture of coastal seawater with lignin-rich pulp mill effluent. It is a coastal representative of the Roseobacter clade, and is a model organism for the study of sulfite and thiosulfite oxidation in coastal environments.
