Learner's Guide to Yan-nhangu

This book is a guide to the sounds, words and structure of the Yan-nhangu language. This book is aimed at people who want to learn some Yan-nhangu on their own or with others learning the language. However, if you can talk to a Yan-nhangu speaker you will learn much more than from just reading this book. The book is also aimed at people who want to learn some linguistics so that they can make good use of the Yan-nhangu dictionary and other books on Yolngu Matha. Once you’ve worked through this book you will know all the technical terms used in the Yan-nhau dictionary. Yannhangu (like all other languages) has thousands and thousands of words. We’ve just used a few hundred in this book, but if you want to speak Yan-nhangu you should learn words in the dictionary and listen to the things that Yan-nhangu people say.
