Spatial Perception Assessment Results in Combat Sports Athletes

This dataset contains anonymised results of the Spatial Perception assessment obtained from 397 combat sports athletes. Data were collected using the “Spatial Perception” mobile application on iPadOS, designed to assess spatial perception and visuomotor response characteristics under progressively increasing visual-task complexity. The test consists of four stages: Stage 1 - 2D static visual stimuli; Stage 2 - 3D static visual stimuli; Stage 3 - 3D dynamic visual stimuli; and Stage 4 - 3D dynamic visual stimuli presented with interfering visual stimuli. Each stage comprises 20 trials, resulting in a total of 80 trials per participant. The application automatically records reaction time and response accuracy for each trial and calculates stage-specific mean reaction time and error percentage. The dataset includes the following stage-specific indicators: mean reaction time for Stages 1–4 (RT1_mean–RT4_mean) and percentage of errors for Stages 1–4 (Err1_pct–Err4_pct). Two aggregate indicators are also provided: mean reaction time across all four stages (RT_avg) and mean error percentage across all four stages (Err_avg). In addition, the dataset contains a sample-derived integrated classification of spatial-perception performance (Level) with three categories: High, Med, and Low. The classification was based on an integrated speed–accuracy index combining standardized mean reaction time and mean error percentage. Lower index values correspond to a more favourable combination of faster responses and fewer errors. The three performance categories were derived from the distribution of the study sample and therefore should be interpreted as sample-specific categories rather than external population norms or diagnostic cut-off values. To protect participant confidentiality and minimise the risk of re-identification, the publicly available dataset does not include individual-level information on age, sex, sport discipline, club affiliation, dates of birth, contact details, or other potentially identifying demographic or sport-specific characteristics. Each observation is identified only by a newly generated repository-specific record code (Record_ID), which is not linked to any publicly available personal information. The dataset is provided in both CSV and XLSX formats. The XLSX version additionally contains a Codebook describing all variables and a Summary sheet providing information on the dataset structure and classification procedure. A separate README file provides additional documentation required for interpretation and reuse of the data. The dataset can be used for secondary analysis of spatial-perception and visuomotor-response characteristics, methodological replication, development and validation of statistical or machine-learning approaches, and comparative research in sport psychophysiology and combat sports.
