The goal of this study was to identify β-catenin target genes in the developing renal stroma. We conducted a gene expression analysis in E12.5 and E13.5 renal stromal cells with either stabilized (β-catSO) or deficient (β-catSD) β-catenin expression. Expression of some candidate β-catenin targets was validated at the protein level by immunohistochemistry. Stromal cells were isolated from E12.5 and E13.5 wild-type, β-catSO and β-catSD FoxD1Cre-eGFP mouse kidneys using fluorescence activated cell sorting (FACS). Three kidneys from each genotype were used for cell isolation. RNA profiles of the isolated cells were generated using the Illumina HiSeq system.
