Herbivorous fish gut metagenome sequencing and assembly

The gut microbiota of the marine herbivorous fish Kyphosus sydneyanus are thought to play an important role in host nutrition by supplying short-chain fatty acids (SCFA) through fermentation of dietary macroalgae. In this study, we assembled metagenome-assembled genomes (MAGs) from ten fish to determine the contribution of different bacterial taxonomic groups to degradation of seaweed carbohydrates along the gut.
