The cutting edge is splayed, flanges large leaf shapes and the stop-ridge is straight. The flanges continue only slightly beyond the ridge. A Middle Bronze Age development of the flanged axe to create a more effective hafting technique. They occur throughout Europe with early examples in Ireland dating to the Killymaddy/Acton Park phase of the [Middle Bronze Age](http://n2t.net/ark:/99152/p0kh9dsqpzm) (c. 1,600 BC).
