Impaired age-associated mitochondrial translation is mitigated by exercise and PGC-1a

To investigate age-related changes in muscle mitochondrial proteostasis, as well as the effect of higher and lower levels of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor ? coactivator 1a (PGC-1a) in this paradigm, we isolated RNA from M. gastrocnemius muscle tissue of muscle-specific PGC-1a gain- and loss-of-function mouse models, at the ages of three and twenty four months. Overall design: We performed gene expression profiling analysis using RNA-seq, which was performed with 5-6 biological replicates for each condition.
