The Australian Gallup Polls, commissioned by Australian Public Opinion Polls (The Gallup Method) cover the periods of 1943-1968 and 1975-1987. Australian Gallup Polls comprise two subseries: the earlier series conducted by Roy Morgan (1943-1968); and the later series by McNair Anderson Associates (1975-1983). Opinion polls in the earlier series were conducted on a regular basis by Roy Morgan and the current holding of this archive date from July 1943 to August 1968, a total of 89 polls. The data are also available from the Roper Centre, University of Connecticut, U.S.A, where they were originally deposited. This data file - collected from Survey 169, May 1, 1964 - includes attitudes to equal pay for women, weekend shopping, limits on serving alcohol, distribution of funds between goverment and church schools, penalties for killing a mentally retarded child, all-digit telephone numbers, fingerprintng, football pools, picture shows on Sundays, the Beatles, purchase of Japanese air force planes, and attitudes to sending forces to Borneo. Background variables included age, sex, economic classification, occupation, vote at last Federal election, car ownership, having a phone, state (and urban/rural classification), religion and migrant status.
