Sequencing the coffee tree genome (Coffea canephora). Coffea canephora strain:DH200-94

The main objective of the present project is the establishment of a reference genome sequence for coffee. We choose Coffea canephora for this purpose, as it is a commercially important species (producing robusta coffee), and it is a simple diploid species, by contrast to Coffea arabica (producing arabica coffee) that is a recent allopolyploid species. We aimed at sequencing the Coffea canephora strain DH200-94, a doubled haploid genotype available at IRD (France). As this is purely homozygous genotype, we will not expect problems due to heterozygosity in the assembly steps. We propose to sequence the coffea genome using new sequencing technologies (454 and Illumina HiSeq) with a minimal amount of Sanger data.
