资源简介:
This collection comprises images from a Historic Building Recording survey of Hertford Mill, Tamworth Road, Hertford. The work was undertaken in October 2021 by Heritage Network prior to demolition of buildings on the site.
The present site consists of five industrial buildings located between Tamworth Road and the railway line serving Hertford East Station. Cartographic evidence shows that the present site was undeveloped until the late 19th century. The earliest buildings were constructed in the first decade of the 20th century. It was served by a rail siding to the rear of Buildings 3 and 4, which was no longer extant by 1951.
The site was significantly altered in the later 20th century, when Building 2 was erected and modern structures added to the south elevation of Building 5. The construction of Meadow Close in 1995 resulted in the demolition of the range of buildings extending to the west of Building 5.
Most of the manufacturing processes undertaken on the site were dependent on plant that has since been removed and has left no physical trace. The buildings themselves represent the generic industrial buildings of the early 20th century. This character was preserved in Building 3 and the western half of Building 4, but, elsewhere, the buildings had been converted to office accommodation or remodelled for modern use.
