Under the Factories and Shops Acts, Special Boards were able to be appointed for any process, trade, business or occupation to determine lowest prices or rates which may be paid and other matters to do with the conditions of work. The Factories and Shops Act 1903 (Section 13) established a Court of Industrial Appeals for deciding all appeals against the determination of a Special Board. This Court was to consist of a judge of the Supreme Court as appointed by the Governor in Council. The Court was reconstituted in the Factories and Shops Act 1915 with two other representatives added and with changes in the process of their appointment and the Courts Procedures.This series consists of the Register recording the appeals against Special Board determinations as heard by the Court of Industrial Appeals. Details given include the date and number of the appeal. The persons making the appeal and against which Special Board, the names of assessors representing employers and employees and a summary of the hearing and the transmission of the determination of the Court to the Minister. Such determinations were published in the Government Gazette.
