This dataset contains the underlying input data, modelling results, and figures for the journal article "Cost-optimal vs. policy-driven scenarios for a decarbonised European energy system" by Frilingou et al., 2026. https://doi.org/10.1088/1748-9326/ae3f45 Version 2 updates the data, code, scripts, and figures after adapting GCAM-Europe to remove the scale-up treatment of biofuels and re-ran the analysis. Version 3 features minor code updates. Version 4 corrects the regional mapping in Figures 2B, 3B, and 4B, as Ireland appears in “Eastern Europe” instead of "Northwestern Europe" in the published version of the paper.
