Human parainfluenza virus 3 HN sequences in the south of China during 2016–2020

This dataset comprises fifty complete hemagglutinin-neuraminidase (HN) gene sequences of human parainfluenza virus 3 (HPIV3) obtained from respiratory samples collected in southern China between January 2016 and December 2020. Samples were collected from hospitalized patients with acute respiratory infections during this period. Viral genomic RNA was extracted from the samples and subjected to reverse transcription. Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) was employed to confirm HPIV3 infection. Positive samples were then used for PCR amplification of the complete HN gene. Finally, Sanger sequencing was performed in both directions using forward and reverse primers to obtain high-quality nucleotide sequences.
