Pink Archaea responsible of discolorations on wall of heritage building

The study regards the pink alteration of the walls with drawings attributed to Michelangelo in the basement room of the Medici Chapel (Florence, Italy). Culture-based approaches combined with molecular and phylogenetic analyses revealed the pink pigmented Archaea, Halalkalikokus sp. as dominant, pointing its role in the wall discoloration.
