Liver transcriptomics and histopathology reveal an association between lung inflammation and liver disease in patients with alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency

Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency (AATD) is a genetic disease which can lead to lung and liver disease. Until now, the relationship between AATD-associated lung and liver disease was not known. We show that there exist unique transcriptomic and histopathology profiles in the liver when comparing AATD individuals with lung disease (LD) versus AATD individuals without lung disease (NLD).
