Compared to other yeasts, <em>Cyberlindnera jadinii</em> exhibits an exceptionally high biomass yield on ethanol, which is an interesting renewable feedstock for microbial biotechnology. Simulations with a stochiometric metabolic model identified an intramitochondrial rather than cytosolic localization of NAD<sup>+</sup>-dependent alcohol and acetaldehyde dehydrogenases as possible explanation for this high yield. This hypothesis was tested in a comparative study including chemostat cultures in bioreactors, genome and proteome analysis, specific activity of enzymes in subcellular fractions, and mitochondrial staining and imaging using fluorescence.<br>Data used for manuscript in preparation, which is essentially Chapter 4 of the PhD thesis titled Exploring physiological diversity of yeasts for ethanol-fueled industrial biotechnology.
