Banana samples fed on by wild Drosophila spp. were collected, and the fungal or bacterial compositions of their microbiota was analyzed by ITS or 16S amplicon sequencing, respectively. Yeasts and bacteria isolated from the foods were grown on banana-agar plates and fed to D. melanogaster larvae. Total RNA extracted from the whole larval bodies or the yeasts was sequenced.
