Tomaree Peninsula Koala Corridor Restoration Project 1

The project will enhance and protect habitat vital to the survival and movement of the koala population on the Tomaree Peninsula at Port Stephens. The work will consolidate existing koala corridors by connecting, improving and expanding critical priority habitat across urban/rural interface. These corridors will link conservation areas and national parklands that have been divided by urban/rural development, safeguarding the genetic diversity and integrity of the local koala population and its connection to populations outside the Local Government Area. Project work will raise the profile of the issues linked with koala survival, particularly in the western areas of the Local Government Area where koala presence and distribution is only now beginning to be quantified.
