This database includes the raw data linked with the paper “Testing auditory social cognition precursors in 12-month-old infants through remote videoconference setting” under review on European Journal of Developmental Psychology. In this study we present a new remotely delivered task to evaluate infants’ socio cognitive behaviors in response to human and non-human auditory stimuli. Procedures Ninety-one infants and their mothers participated in a remote task. At infants’ 12-month-age, a remote mother-infant interaction was videotaped: after an initial 2-min face-to-face episode, the experimenter remotely played a series of four auditory stimuli (human vs. non-human). Infants’ orienting, communication, and pointing toward the auditory source was micro-analytically coded. Analytical plan Two scores were obtained for each socio-cognitive behavior: a dichotomous index of display (1) or non-display (0) for the entire duration of the Exposure episodes and a continuous index (i.e., expressed as percentage on total Exposure episode duration for orienting, communication and pointing; expressed as frequency for triangulation). Separate independent repeated-measure analyses of variance (ANOVAs) were used to assess the presence of statistically significant within-subject differences among task episodes for each socio-cognitive behavior. Separate independent t-tests were used to test potential sex differences. Findings in brief Infants exhibited similar reactions to both human and non-human auditory stimuli. All infants oriented toward the sound source, approximately 80% of infants engaged in some form of communication, 48% showed at least one pointing toward the sound, and 73.6% showed at least one triangulation. The remote auditory task was effective in eliciting target socio cognitive behaviors.
