UA heat sources

The Urban Areas, which were defined in the sEEnergies D5.2 report, were enriched with heat source information considering renewable and excess heat sources. That includes the average Global Horizontal Irradiation from the Global Solar Atlas by the World Bank Group and Solargis (World Bank Group, ESMAP, & Solargis, 2022). Information about the existence of deep geothermal heat potentials were taken from the GeoDH-project. The potential of bioenergy from agriculture and forestry biomass was limited to straw and wood residues and was derived from the results of the EU-project S2Biom (2016). The excess heat potential from wastewater treatment plants, quantified by the ReUseHeat project, was allocated to the Urban Areas. The excess heat of industrial sites (at level 2 = 55°C temperature level, see sEEnergies D5.1) was allocated to nearby Urban Areas in a fashion that maximises the heat utilised at each location while minimising the required transmission pipelines. by Flensburg, Halmstad and Aalborg Universities, 2022
