Colony self-shading facilitates Symbiodiniaceae cohabitation in a South Pacific coral community

Intra-colony Symbiodiniaceae cohabitation is investigated in 20 species of coral from a single environment type (the shallow lagoon of Rarotonga). A surprising amount of intra-colony diversity was discovered by targeting the light-exposed and -shaded regions of coral colonies. ITS2 rDNA metabarcoding was used to produce this data.
