Investigation of a vanA vancomycin- and linezolid-resistant Enterococcus faecium outbreak in the Southwest Indian Ocean area (Reunion Island)

This study pleads for a strict application of control and prevention measures concerning high-risk diffusion VRE clone, especially in territories like Reunion Island where the risk of importation is high. Furthermore, the regional diffusion of optrA/poxtA linezolide-resistance genes in VRE isolates is worrisome in terms of therapeutic dead-end.
