BIRDS-I is a benchmark dataset for measuring the image retrieval performance of distributed systems over the Internet. It was developed with consideration of the usage trends of small-scale personalized wireless systems. The dataset requires that human intervention be limited solely to the compilation of the image collection, with no involvement in the measurement of retrieval accuracy. This dataset is designed to be gradually scaled to accommodate millions of stored images, with the scaling process enabled through computer-aided compilation.
