This BioProject presents the first draft genome sequence of Alternaria alternata isolated from wheat seeds in Karbala Province, Iraq. Alternaria alternata is a significant phytopathogenic fungus known for causing seed decay and foliar diseases in a wide range of crops. In this study, a strain of A. alternata was collected from infected wheat seeds, and its genome was sequenced to gain insights into its pathogenicity, genetic diversity, and potential mechanisms for host infection. This genomic data will serve as a valuable resource for understanding the biology of A. alternata and may contribute to the development of effective disease management strategies for wheat and other susceptible crops in the region.This work represents a crucial step in documenting and studying fungal pathogens impacting agricultural production in Iraq.
