Paenibacillus apiarius JH21 was isolated from a soil sample collected from Horse Tooth Reservoir in Fort Collins, CO USA. The soil was collected about 10 meters from the shoreline. This bacteria was isolated for its ability to produce antimicrobial compounds with the goal of identifying the biosynthetic pathway responsible.
