The study describes a newly discovered species of bacteria called Chryseobacterium nematophagum. This bacteria has nematode-killing activity and represents a novel biological control method for nematodes of veterinary importance. Two strains of C. nematophagum were genome sequenced during the project, allowing a comparative genomic approach to be applied to identify the bacterially encoded proteins which confer this important phenotype.
